To search a broadcast list in WhatsApp, open the Chats tab, tap the search bar, and type the list name or a word from the last broadcast. Broadcasts live in the same chat list as people and groups. There is no separate “Broadcast directory” with filters. If you cannot find the list, you probably never named it, or you are in the personal app instead of WhatsApp Business.
Find a broadcast list on the phone
- Open WhatsApp Business.
- On Chats, tap the magnifying glass.
- Type the list name (for example “COD buyers” or “Diwali 2025”).
- Or type a unique word from the last message you sent to that list.
- Open the result. You will see the thread of messages you sent to that list, not 256 separate chats.
Android and iPhone use the same idea. WhatsApp Web and Desktop search the same chat list after the phone is paired.
If search returns nothing

WhatsApp will not search “all people I ever broadcasted” the way Gmail searches a label. That is the product limit.
Create and name lists so you can find them later
- New chat → New broadcast.
- Pick contacts (max 256).
- Send the first message, then immediately rename the list to a job, not “Broadcast 3”: July COD, Clinic Friday, VIP restock.
Recipients must usually have your number saved or many messages will not deliver. Sending 100: 100 at once.
When search is the wrong tool
If you need “everyone who ordered in 30 days,” “Shopify tag X,” or three people sending the same list, the Business app search will not get you there. Cloud API stores segments, not megaphone chats.
- Filter by tag, city, last order, or opt-in source in Ominiflow.
- Schedule the send. Phone lists cannot.
- See who read, replied, or blocked — search cannot.
